Sonic The Hedgehog will be celebrating its 35th anniversary throughout 2026 after the original game was released back in 1991 and it sounds like Crush 40 will be joining in on the celebrations.

American hard rock band Crush 40 has soundtracked a lot of epic Sonic moments over the past three decades. The band’s guitarist Jun Senoue has worked at Sega as a composer since 1993 and the group are responsible for fan-favourite tracks ‘Open Your Heart’ (Sonic Adventure), ‘Live And Learn’ (Sonic Adventure 2), ‘What I’m Made Of…’ (Sonic Heroes), ‘I Am… All of Me’ (Shadow The Hedgehog), ‘Green Light Ride’ (Team Sonic Racing) and many more. They’ve put on several concerts in Japan and released two live albums, but have never done a full tour.

However, according to a new interview with vocalist Johnny Gioeli, that’s set to change later this year. “I’m building a Crush 40 world tour using the most visually immersive technology ever seen,” he told All Things Nintendo, describing it as his “last hurrah”.

“I’m bringing $2million worth of visual effects to this tour, to bring a show never seen before in the gaming music world. I’ll have great guests, great openers and we’re going to tour it around the world,” he continued. “We have 63 shows already planned in every major city around the world. I’ve wanted to do this for the last couple of years because there’s more than seeing a video behind me, I want to bring these characters to life and have an immersive experience. I want to bring the audience inside the game. It’s going to be like seeing a movie.”

The Crush 40 world tour will kick off in December 2026 and run throughout 2027.

Gioeli will be using the Sonic community to help create artwork for the tour. It’s not known if bandmate Jun Senoue or Sega will be involved though. At the end of 2024, Goielo sued Sega for more than $1million over ownership of ‘Live And Learn’ but the lawsuit was dismissed last year.

Last week, Sega confirmed it would be celebrating Sonic The Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary throughout 2026 with fan meet-ups, exclusive partnerships featuring limited merchandise, museum pop-ups and art exhibits, live concert celebrations and a brand-new narrative podcast.

In other news, Bruno Mars performed an exclusive concert in the popular Roblox minigame Steal A Brainrot over the weekend.
