The Inbetweeners star James Buckley recalled the moment a member of the Skins cast offered him alcohol, after mistaking him for being a teenager.

The actor was speaking on his podcast with his co-star Joe Thomas,
Joe And James Fact Up, and were reflecting on the success of the 2000s comedy series. Skins, the popular teenage drama, also broke through around the same time, meaning the casts of both shows often mingled at events.

“I think they were playing their age, like a lot of them were 14 or 15” Buckley said. By comparison, The Inbetweeners cast were all adults above the UK legal drinking age of 18. “By the time the show had gone out, we were all definitely in our 20s” he said, leading on to an anecdote about a funny misunderstanding.

“We were at this awards, the comedy awards, the Skins cast were there as well” Buckley recalled. “I remember one of them coming up, the little fella with the glasses (Mike Bailey), nice chap. He came up to me and he was saying just how much he enjoyed the show.”

He continued: “I was like ‘oh man, thank you’, and he went ‘oh, and by the way, if you want a drink…’, and he pulled back his suit jacket and he had like a hip flask. He went ‘let me know,’ and I went, ‘well there’s a bar there, I can just…’ and I was going ‘but they’re free! They’ve got an open bar, it’s brilliant, it’s great’. I think he thought I was a 16-year old.”

In October, it was announced that a revival of the series was in development, following an agreement by show creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, and is said to involve the original cast.

Recently, Joe Thomas spoke about what fans should expect from the reboot.
