Divinity was unveiled late last year after creators Larian Studios erected a mysterious statue in the Los Angeles’ desert. The game will be set within the same universe as 2014’s Divinity: Original Sin and its 2017 sequel but will tell a standalone story.

“We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place. This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands,” explained Larian CEO Swen Vincke. A gory trailer was also shared but release details are still under wraps.

Taking part in a recent Reddit AMA session, Vincke also confirmed that BAFTA winning composer Borislav Slavov will be returning to score Divinity after creating the celebrated score for Baldur’s Gate 3. “We wouldn’t be able to stop him even if we wanted to,” said Vincke. “He’s been very busy composing and recording new material. It’s pretty great.”

Slavov teased his return shortly after Divinity was unveiled. He wrote “we are back” on X alongside the chef emoji but refused to confirm his involvement.

Divinity has been in development since 2023 and speaking to NME in 2024, Slavov said: “I wish I could give you a hand, or tell you what we are cooking at the moment. But the only thing that I can tell you is that from a music perspective, it’s going to be wild. It’s going to be the biggest, most ambitious music system we’ve ever aimed for.”

In a recent interview, Vincke confirmed that Divinity will be bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3. He added that expectations were high due to the success of their previous game. “We feel the pressure on our shoulders especially because we set high ambitions for ourselves. But the opposite of that would be that we say, ‘Oh, you know what, we’ll just make a lesser game.’ That wouldn’t be very motivating at all.”

“With Divinity, we’re creating a dark world so you can be the light in the darkness. It’s a story about hope,” he added. “But of course we want you to experience agency, so there’s also plenty of ways to take away that hope and be the darkness that snuffs out the light.”

Elsewhere in the AMA, Vincke revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. “We would have loved to but it wasn’t our decision to make.”

In other news, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become the best user-reviewed game of all time, according to review aggregate site Metacritic.
