Rose Byrne has revealed that her partner Bobby Cannavale missed her Golden Globes win because he was buying an exotic lizard.
The actress took home the award for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at last night’s (Sunday January 11) ceremony for her performance in psychological comedy-drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
During her speech, Byrne admitted it was “such a shock” to win, joking: “We shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50. This is a tiny film, so this is like a huge thing to be up here.”
After joking about her parents buying Paramount+ to watch the Golden Globes from Sydney, she then thanked Cannavale – whom she referred to as her “husband”.
“I want to thank my husband Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey,” she shared. “Thank you baby!”
Another big acting winner on the night was Timothée Chalamet, who won the Lead Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy gong for Marty Supreme.
In his speech, the actor nodded to his previous defeats at the awards, saying: “My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up: ‘Always be grateful for what you have’.
“It’s allowed me to leave the ceremony in the past empty-handed with my head held high, grateful just to be here. But I’d be lying if I said those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter.”
One Battle After Another was the big film winner overall, taking home four awards including Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role award for Teyana Taylor and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Hamnet took the drama equivalent prize alongside Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Jessie Buckley.
KPop Demon Hunters also won multiple awards, with songwriter EJAE giving an emotional speech after winning Best Original Song for ‘Golden’.
On the TV side of things, Adolescence, The Pitt and The Studio dominated the categories, with the former taking home four gongs.
Ahead of the ceremony, Hans Zimmer criticised the Globes for not airing the Best Original Score category, calling it a “shame”, while Mark Ruffalo slammed Donald Trump and ICE following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last week, labelling the US president the “worst human being”.
