Mark Ruffalo protest ICE and “worst human” Donald Trump at Golden Globes

Mark Ruffalo has protested ICE at the Golden Globes, calling Donald Trump the “worst human being”.

It comes after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last week by an ICE agent during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation. The death of the prize-winning poet, who had a wife a three children, has since triggered widespread protests in the US.

Good, a volunteer in “neighbourhood ‌patrols” to keep track of ICE activity, was shot in her car, with footage showing that seconds before she attempted to drive away from the confrontation. However, DHS officials claimed she had tried to “run over” the officer.

In the wake of the events, during last night’s (Sunday January 11) Golden Globes, Ruffalo was seen wearing a pin on his lapel inscribed with the words “BE GOOD”.

“This is for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered,” he told USA Today on the red carpet. “We’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. [Trump’s] telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him.

“The only thing that matters to him is his own morality, but the guy is a convicted felon. He’s the worst human being. If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.

“So this is for her,” the actor added. “This is for the people in the United States who are terrorised and scared today. I know I’m one of them. I love this country. And what I’m seeing here happening is not America.”

Ruffalo, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama for HBO crime drama Task, said of attending the ceremony: “I wanna be here to celebrate, and I am going to celebrate, and I’m proud to have a Golden Globe nomination. But also, this is not normal anymore, and I don’t know how I can be quiet.”

Wanda Sykes is wearing a “Be Good” pin at the #GoldenGlobes to honor Renee Good after she was killed by an ICE officer:

“We need to speak up and shut this rogue government down. It’s awful what they are doing to people.”

Many other celebrities have slammed the Trump administration following the fatal shooting, including Neil Young, Billie Eilish and Joe Keery, while Dave Matthews called the government “just deeply, deeply dishonest people” in a video message.

Duran Duran also dedicated their song ‘Ordinary World’ to Good at a concert in Sacramento, frontman Simon Le Bon saying: “We believe that people in this world have a right to live their lives in peace and lives of freedom and happiness in their own country. For all the ordinary people in this world, we wish upon you an ordinary world.”

In other news, One Battle After Another was the big film winner at the Globes this year, taking home four awards including Best Film – Musical Or Comedy and Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role award for Teyana Taylor. Timothée Chalamet and Jessie Buckley were among the other film acting winners, while AdolescenceThe Pitt and The Studio won big on the TV side.
