The Grammy-nominated Los Angeles girl group released their ‘Beautiful Chaos’ EP last year and it included the breakout hit ‘Gabriela’, which was co-written by the ‘Brat’ star and scored the band the greatest chart success to date.
In a new interview with People, they have revealed that Charli is “definitely” an artist that they would like to work more directly with moving forward, with band member Manon Bannerman saying, “I just recently met her and I think we all really hope to work with her more in the future”.
“She’s definitely a KATSEYE girlie, and we’re in love with ‘Brat’ and everything about her,” she added. “She’s such an inspiration to us. We don’t know what the future holds, but we’re definitely, definitely super into that idea.”
Last year, NME spoke to KATSEYE about working with Charli, and Lara Raj said: “One thing that inspires me so much about Charli is she’s so versatile. She’s been around for so long. I recently went on this deep dive of all of her albums and the evolution of Charli XCX. What’s so special about her, whether it’s her artist project or what she’s written [for other artists], you can tell that she’s written it.”
“In ‘Gabriela’, there are a lot of melodies where I’m like, ‘Oh my god, she did that. It’s Charli’,” Lara added. “She leaves this imprint on everything she does, no matter how different the songs are. I just think that’s so sick. We all think that she’s the sickest person in the world. Excellent artistry and insane amounts of growth, but also very much staying true to herself and what she likes, which we all really want to be like [ourselves].”
KATSEYE’s other standout single from 2025, ‘Gnarly’, was named as the fifth best song of the year by NME.
Elsewhere, the group recently reflected on their rise to fame since winning Dream Academy in 2023, including the dark side of success. “If 1,000 people are, like, sending you death threats, it’s jarring,” Lara told the BBC. “Even if it’s not gonna happen, and it doesn’t mean anything, it’s heavy, and it’s jarring.”
As for Charli, she is set to be busy in 2026, starring in the A24 mockumentary The Moment, which is based around the ‘Brat’ album and tour, as well as the indie drama Erupcja, the satirical thriller Sacrifice, a role opposite Natalie Portman in The Gallerist, and an appearance in I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde.
She will also be a part of the queer fairytale 100 Nights Of Hero, and will be in Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut A Tree In Blue, and she has also created the soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which will be released on February 11. She recently shared the single ‘Chains Of Love’ from the film, as well as ‘House’, which featured The Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
