It’s been more than 12 years since Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto 5 but Grand Theft Auto 6 still isn’t finished, claims a new report.

Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially announced in December 2023 and was set to launch in late 2025 before it was delayed to May 26, 2026. Last year, Rockstar Games pushed back the release even further, claiming “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
However, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the game still isn’t finished. “The last I heard, it was still not content complete,” he said on the latest episode of Spotify’s Button Mash podcast. “That is to say people were still finishing things up, still finalising levels and missions, and seeing what is going to make it into the game. They are still making stuff and will hopefully be done with that soon so they can start bug-testing.”
Currently Grand Theft Auto 6 is due to launch November 19, 2026 but Schreier shared his doubts about that release date. “I don’t think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100 per cent certainty that the game will be out in November but it feels a little more real than [previous release dates]. People feel this will be a little more solid.”
“With a game like this, the stakes are so high,” he added. “They really can’t settle for anything less than perfection because there’s so much riding on it – the entire stock of [publishers] Take-Two lives or dies on this game. It’s not something they will release in any compromised state so even if it comes to October and it’s not 100 per cent ready, I suspect they would rather [delay it for a third time] rather than release date. Obviously they’d want to be out for the holiday season but their fiscal year ends at the end of March so they do have a buffer.”
Take Two boss Strauss Zelnick has said he’s “highly confident” in the November release date, but he was also confident that the game wouldn’t be delayed beyond May 2026.
Last year it was reported that next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles could be pushed back from a rumoured 2027 release because of the Grand Theft Auto 6 delays.
In other news, Xbox Game Pass has confirmed the huge games that will be joining the subscription service this January.
