When two talented artists team up, the result is GABBYONME. While Adrian made waves as a soloist, more magic was created when teaming up with rapper KINDA. 2025 has seen the duo work together on numerous projects, seeing success with singles like “Dance in the Mirror” and “both ways.” October saw them back with the double release “THINK ABOUT US”, and it might just be their best one yet… which, considering the high standards we’ve been treated to, says a lot about them both as artists.
With different musical backgrounds, one would think they might act against each other when in fact they do the opposite. Combining different ideas, thoughts, and their own experience into a partnership that has created hits such as “JUST BECAUSE”, “2018”, and of course “Addictive LoVe”.
Using each other’s strengths and weaknesses is the true testament to not only craftsmanship but also friendship, which lies at the root of this project. As they state, “We think that it is such a blessing to be working with such a good friend with a different set of skills and personality.” We spoke to the guys about their new release, upcoming plans, and the early music that shaped them to who they are today.
Kpopwise: Your new single “THINK ABOUT US” is out now and marks your fifth release of 2025 as a duo. What do you think contributes to your creative partnership working so well?
For us, we believe that the strength in our synergy comes from our differences in background and musical specialities that are bound and rooted by a united vision and passion for music. KINDA specialises in multi-genre production, sound engineering, and mixing and directing and comes from the cutthroat competitive K-pop environment of Seoul, Korea. Adrian is a singer-songwriter with a gospel/R&B-influenced background from Texas. His specialities include writing, producing, top-lining, and sounds with a soulful tone. With different talents but a united vision, we are able to combine our skills to create new sounds for Gabby Onme.
Kpopwise: What moment or feeling sparked the idea for “THINK ABOUT US”?
“THINK ABOUT US” is an idea that was derived from a long-distance relationship that ended on good terms. It is a bittersweet song that reflects love that couldn’t be actualised due to circumstances. We think everyone has those memories of someone that they yearn for sometimes. The beat, the lyrics, and the melody were written to resonate with those memories.
Kpopwise: Did the overall vibe of the song evolve during production, or did it always stay true to how you had originally envisioned it?
The beat was produced in the beginning with the feeling of cloudiness and nostalgia. After the beat came out, right from the start, the first phrase and melody were “Think about me, think about you. Think about me, think about us.” From that moment on, the rest of the song just came out automatically.
Kpopwise: If “THINK ABOUT US” were to be placed in a movie, what kind of storyline or scene would you imagine it would fit into?
I think it would be in a romance movie, such as the After series, or a series like Euphoria. A mix of butterflies, toxic romance, bittersweet drama, and a rollercoaster of emotions.
Kpopwise: Following standout singles such as “Dance in the Mirror” and “Both Ways”, as well as the EP Shimmer earlier this year. Which one of the releases this year are you most proud of?
The release that we are most proud of so far would have to be “both ways”. The reason for this is that “JUST BECAUSE” is the song and video that has come closest to the honing of our sound and visuals up to this point. It reflects the energy and direction that Gabby Onme wants to project into the future.
Kpopwise: KINDA You’ve described this single as a “hyper romance project”. Is that a musical direction you enjoy creating? Where do you tend to get your inspiration for emotional and romantic storytelling? Is it based on everyday life experiences?
KINDA: Our inspiration comes from our past and present memories. We love to dive into the raw emotions that romantic connections bring out in each of us. Not everything is black and white, and we love to dabble in the grey areas when it comes to expressing our thoughts and emotions.
Kpopwise: Adrian, you’ve viewed this release more as an “appetiser of sounds for the main dish to come.” That’s a great analogy. What do you hope that main dish will sound like, and what do you imagine its visuals would look like?
Adrian: Yes! We have been experimenting with many genres, sounds, and visuals in these past years. Starting from the “both ways” project, we really feel like we have found our direction in our music and visuals. Next year I feel like the ‘main dish’ will be presented to our audience, meaning whoever hears and sees our art will have a clear understanding of our mood and purpose.
Kpopwise: Your music is never cemented into one genre and is full of multiple genres. Growing up, which artists helped shape the way you approach writing and producing songs today?
KINDA: I grew up listening to many genres, but some of his early influences include D’Angelo, Michael Jackson, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and various K-POP groups. My favourite artists currently are Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott. Adrian grew up liking Alicia Keys, Musiq Soulchild, and Drake.
Adrian: My favourite artists these days are Justin Bieber, Bryson Tiller, 6lack, and Frank Ocean. There are so many more mainstream and independent artists that we enjoy listening to, but we draw inspiration from each artist and their originality. Each artist has their own unique colour that they present to the world. By noticing those colours, we try to dive deeper into our own selves to figure out what makes our art unique and original.
Kpopwise: Adrian, you were raised in Texas, where there’s a strong musical culture. How did those experiences help with learning to sing?
Adrian: My years in Texas definitely shaped my style and taste in music. Because of the Southern and Gospel-influenced environment, my music tastes gravitate to soulful and fuller sounds. My mother, who was also a gospel singer, influenced me greatly on how I view singing. To her, singing was not just an act. It was a way of life. Through her, I learnt that singing and artistic expressions should never be forced. It should be truthful, natural, raw, and honest.
Kpopwise: KINDA, you, on the other hand, grew up in Seoul. But you also had musical aspirations from a young age. At what point did you know this was going to be the career you wanted to commit to?
KINDA: I knew from an early age that I wanted to pursue music. From the beginning of my schooling, I always showed interest in musical production and arrangement. I had a long journey of being in the K-pop industry as an idol, as well as working in other companies as a producer and creative director. The entire time, from the early years, I knew this was what I wanted to do for life.
Kpopwise: After meeting, connecting through music is a powerful thing for many. How did you begin to learn how to work together and merge your ideas while balancing each other’s strengths? What skills do you think you’ve learnt from one another over the years?
We think that it is such a blessing to be working with such a good friend with a different set of skills and personality. Of course, it was not smooth from the beginning. We each had different styles of work as well as differences in strengths and weaknesses. As time went by, we figured out a process to streamline our work process while using each other’s strengths to minimise each other’s weaknesses as well.
Adrian has learnt from KINDA on the professional side of music production and sound engineering. KINDA has benefitted from Adrian’s writing skills and melody-making strengths. That is just to name a few, but just as two colours become one when they are mixed, so had Gabby Onme’s sound.
Kpopwise: Between the two of you, who would you say is the planner? And who has a more freestyle, carefree energy?
Adrian: KINDA is definitely more of the detailed planner. Especially when it comes to music, KINDA is a perfectionist.
KINDA: Though less focused on details, Adrian focuses on the general mood and emotions that the music delivers.
Kpopwise: With your message of positivity and love, do you hope that listeners will carry that own feeling into their own lives after hearing your music?
Yes! That is our ultimate goal. We seek to deliver our honest and raw emotions, which we hope, in turn, will inspire others to resonate with their own unique beauty!
Kpopwise: And finally, as we approach the end of the year, what does 2026 have in store for you both?
We will be releasing many projects with new concepts. We hope to finally be able to tour and be able to perform for our listeners live! We are very excited to be able to tour soon and are very excited to show everyone what we have been working on!
