Legacy Of Atlantis is a remastered take on 1996’s Tomb Raider. “Whether you’re a veteran raider or ready for your first adventure with Lara, Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis instills a new sense of discovery to the original through modern game design, stunning graphics, and new surprises,” reads the official announcement blog.
The title was unveiled at last week’s The Game Awards but it’s now been confirmed that a new actor will be playing Lara Croft.
Shelley Blond voiced Lara Croft in the original Tomb Raider game with Judith Gibbins starring in 1997’s sequel and its 1998 followup. For the second trilogy of Tomb Raider games, Lara Croft was voiced by Jonell Elliott while Keeley Hawes played the badass archeologist for the Legend trilogy. Since 2012, Camilla Luddington has played Lara Croft but she’s set to be replaced.

In Legacy Of Atlantis, Lara Croft will be played by Alix Wilton Regan. Regan’s a video game veteran, having previously played Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, the female Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition and Aya in Assassin’s Creed Origins amongst countless others.
“Being revealed as Lara Croft is the absolute highlight of my career to date, and has surpassed even my wildest dreams,” Regan said in an Instagram video shortly after the announcement. “And whilst I still have my very cute Lara Croft plaits in my hair, this Lara Croft just wanted to say, thank you. And get excited, because we’re just getting started.”
Regan will also play Lara Croft in the brand new title Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which will launch in 2027.
Following the news of the recast, Luddington wrote: “Tomb Raider fans, I thought I’d make a post since I’ve been hearing from so many of you. I want to let you know that I have loved this fandom. To join the list of Lara Crofts before me was an incredible honour and she will forever be a part of me. The Survivor Trilogy was a decade of adventure I will never ever forget. I could not be prouder of what we created.”
She continued: “And as always, a new actress receives this incredible gift to step into the boots. So with that said – Alix Wilton Regan, if you’re ever in need of a bow , I know the exact spot to look for one at Croft Manor.”
“This is incredibly kind, gorgeous and gracious of you,” replied Regan. “No Laras left behind in this world, all Laras are always welcome. From one Lara to another, I salute you… and thank you.”
Regan isn’t the only new Lara Croft around. A live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider is currently in the works at Amazon Prime Video with Game Of Thrones’ Sophie Turner set to star as the video game icon.
In other news, the creator of Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic has hit back at rumours the game won’t be released until 2030.
