Inspired by the hit video game series, Street Fighter is set to launch next year and will reboot the franchise after previous movie adaptations were critical and commercial flops.
“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER,” reads the official description.
A series of character posters and a trailer have been shared, giving fans their first proper look at the cast.
The confirmed cast for Street Fighter is:
Noah Centineo as Ken Masters
Andrew Koji as Ryu
Callina Liang as Chun-Li
Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoaʻi as Akuma
David Dastmalchian as M. Bison
Cody Rhodes as Guile

Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog

Despite the negative reception to 1994’s Street Fighter (which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue) and 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, fans are optimistic about the new movie.
“It took 5 seconds for me to realise this was in no way a serious movie and that ‘90s camp was the point. I’m 100 per cent in,” wrote one fan after seeing the teaser trailer. “This looks fantastically ridiculous,” said another. “Street Fighter needs a degree of cheese to work. It looks suitably over-the-top,” added a third.
Legendary Pictures first acquired the rights to make a new Street Fighter movie in 2023 with Sony set to distribute. A release date of March 20, 2026 was initially announced but that was changed after the long-standing distribution deal between Sony and Legendary Pictures came to an end in 2024. The project was indefinitely delayed earlier this year but it’s now been confirmed that Street Fighter will launch October 16, 2026.
In other news, the beloved soundtrack for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now even bigger with six tracks added as part of a new expansion.
