Helena Bonham Carter is reportedly being lined up for the next season of The White Lotus.
The Oscar-nominated actress, known for her roles in The King’s Speech, Harry Potter as well as numerous collaborations with Tim Burton, is apparently in early talks for the fourth season of the HBO anthology show, according to Deadline.
While it is unclear how far through the process she is, if confirmed, she would be the first star to sign on ahead of a reported spring production date for the next set of episodes, which look set to take place in France.
The show follows guests at different branches of the fictional White Lotus chain of hotels, with the first season taking place in Hawaii, the second in Sicily, and last year’s third in Thailand.
Each season takes on a murder mystery format, while characters rarely cross over – Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid, Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda Lindsey and Jon Gries’s Greg Hunt being the rare exceptions.
This year’s third season featured star turns from Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sam Nivola, Sarah Catherine Hook, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan and Lisa from BLACKPINK (aka Lalisa Manobal).
Reports emerged of on-set drama behind-the-scenes, though Isaacs subsequently hit back at the speculation over some interviews he had given.
“So I’ve said a few times, ‘You make friends. You lose friends, romances or whatever; things happen between departments and all the backstage drama that we’re all used to,’” he told the Los Angeles Times. “Well, the online world went mad trying to deconstruct, trying to work out who knew who and who was [doing what].”
Wood and Goggins also hit back at rumours of a rift between the two of them, notably over Instagram activity that appeared to exclude one another, as well as Goggins’s reaction of a Saturday Night Live sketch that mocked Wood’s appearance. Goggins said they “care about each other very deeply”, while Wood called the talk “irrelevant”.
The actress also recently said she didn’t regret calling out the SNL sketch as “mean and unfunny”, saying: “No matter what chaos came from it, I’m still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something.”
