Larian Studios have hit back at rumours they’re about to unveil a brand new Divinity: Original Sin title at this year’s The Game Awards.

Last week, a mysterious statue appeared in the Californian desert with The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley sharing its location on social media.

Gaming fans quickly set about trying to work out what the demonic monument was teasing. Early rumours about Diablo 4 and God Of War were quickly debunked, with the teams behind Lords Of The Fallen 2 and The Elder Scrolls 6 also denying their involvement in the stunt.

Yesterday (December 9), there appeared to be a breakthrough. It was reported that Larian had registered a handful of new trademarks – one looked suspiciously like the creepy desert statue while another was a reworked logo for Divinity, an action-role playing game franchise that launched in 2002 with Divine Divinity and achieved huge success in 2014 with Divinity: Original Sin.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 followed in 2017 with many fans and leakers expecting a third game to be announced at The Game Awards. Back in 2023, Larian boss Swen Vincke said they were going to “get back” to the series at some point.

However, according to Larian’s Publishing Director, Michael Douse, the studio currently has no plans for a third Divinity: Original Sin game. “There aren’t currently any plans for a new Divinity Original Sin 3 game but once we are ready to show what we’ve been working on, we will,” he wrote on X.

However some optimistic fans are expecting a brand new Divinity title rather than a third Original Sin game. The Game Awards takes place tomorrow (December 11) with UK fans able to watch it live here from 12:30am GMT (December 12).

Larian Studios’ most recent game was the hugely successful Baldur’s Gate 3. A year after it launched, they confirmed that they wouldn’t be working on a DLC or a sequel.“We’re not going to make [what] everybody is expecting. We’re going to move on,” explained Vincke.

Larian hasn’t revealed much about what comes next, but has teased two new projects that will be “even better” than Baldur’s Gate 3, with the “very ambitious” RPGs based on fresh IPs.

The Game Awards has confirmed it will be unveiling the “future” of Tomb Raider during the ceremony on Thursday, while Evanescence will be performing their Devil May Cry anthem ‘Afterlife’.

In other news, Call Of Duty has announced some major changes following the divisive launch of Black Ops 7.
