Over the weekend, The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared at a convention and during a fan Q&A, he was asked if he’d want to play his namesake Arthur Morgan in a live-action Red Dead Redemption adaptation.

“That’s the one that I want to do,” he replied. “It’s not even a question, My favourite genre is westerns and there’s not even a close second. And my son plays that game and it’s fricking awesome. In a heartbeat, I would do it for free.”

However, fans of the iconic game aren’t so sure. “He’s fantastic but frankly he’s too sinister as an actor to play Arthur. He would make an excellent Dutch…I would watch the shit out of that show,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Lets keep it to the games, the characters are perfect as is,” shared another. “Sorry but Arthur isn’t Arthur without Roger Clarke and Dutch isn’t Dutch without BBD’s voice and performance.  Motion capture actors are real actors and I would never want anyone else to take over these roles,” said a third fan.

I’m gonna say something some of you aren’t going to like…

I love JDM- but the reality is as a fellow actor and someone who does live action and voice acting it would be nice if for once studios would respect our work as being multi faceted and at least give the voice actors… https://t.co/9x1aQitbJA

Last year, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser claimed the reason why no Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption adaptation had been made was because the studio wouldn’t have full creative control . “The risk never made sense. In those days, the perception was that games made poor-quality movies,” he told The Ankler. “It’s a different time now,”he added, with celebrated adaptations of The Last Of Us and Fallout introducing a new audience to the blockbuster titles.

In 2022, it was reported that Rockstar Games had turned down the opportunity to create a Grand Theft Auto film with Eminem.

Last month though, fans were tricked by a viral social media post that claimed a Grand Theft Auto movie was in the works.

In other news, The Game Awards take place later this week – here’s what you can expect to be announced during the ceremony.
