Weiland died in 2015, aged 48. It reported that the cause of death was an accidental overdose due to the vocalist taking a “toxic mix of drugs”, claims that have been contested by the singer’s widow, Jamie Wachtel Weiland.

To mark the 10th anniversary of his death, Noah held a show at the Garden Amp outdoor amphitheatre in Orange County on Wednesday (December 3), where he broke out covers of his dad’s material.

Ahead of the show, he’d told Rolling Stone his therapist had given him the idea to throw a “get-together” to honour his father. “I didn’t even realise it was about to be 10 years until he brought it up,” he said. “My brain started cooking ideas up instantly.”

At the show – which saw him cover Velvet Revolver classic ‘Slither’ and Stone Temple Pilots’ ‘Sex Type Thing’ – he was joined on stage by Jakob Nowell, the son of the late Sublime frontman, Bradley Nowell.

Taking to social media after the show, Noah it was “crazy to think” about what they’d pulled off with only three weeks notice. “And to think I did it all while [trying to] get rehoused, keep myself from going off the rails with addiction & visiting my son for the 1st time in 7 months in a different country,” he wrote.

“I love every single person that came out to support,” he added, before asking fans if they’d be interested in “a little ‘encore tour’ of the same show” in more states in the future.

Last week, one of Weiland’s previously unreleased tracks, ‘If I Could Fly’ was shared ten years after his death.

Penned by the late Stone Temple Pilots frontman back in 2000 after the birth of Noah, the song captures the same distinctive sound that put Weiland on the map, and arrived on streaming exactly a decade to the day since Weiland passed away.

Elsewhere, it was shared last year that Noah was also reworking unreleased vocals from his father on a new song called ‘Time Will Tell’, after an alleged blackmail attempt.

It was reported that Weiland had worked on an unfinished demo of the song before his death, and this was obtained by an unknown individual, who had threatened to leak it online unless Noah handed over $2,000.

In a tribute from NMEWeiland was hailed as a “flawed rock ‘n’ roll genius”, listed five of his most iconic moments, and shared: “it is sad to see yet another flawed musician passing away in such sad circumstances”.
