The nominations for the Golden Globes 2026 were announced earlier today (December 8), with Sydney Sweeney one of the most high-profile snubs.

Sweeney’s Christy, in which she plays the titular boxer Christy Martin, didn’t receive any nominations. The biopic was released in cinemas on November 7, but became one of the biggest movie flops of all time after failing to break into the top 10 at the box office in its opening weekend.
On social media, many users weren’t surprised about the movie’s failure to receive any Golden Globes nominations, following its underwhelming critical and commercial reaction.
“The Globes showing the same amount of interest in it that audiences did,” one wrote, while another said: “There was nothing to snub.”

“Girl what is this? That movie was going to go NOWHERE,” said another, while one X (Twitter) user added: “You can’t call everything a ‘snub’, especially when she never had a chance, other than the campaign they have push[ed] for weeks, with no real support, reviews nor box office, to sustain it.”

The snub came days after Sweeney addressed the American Eagle ad controversy she found herself embroiled in earlier this year. The campaign, ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’, proved controversial over the summer after some social media users alleged that the pun on “jeans” and “genes” being part of an advertising campaign with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman promoted eugenics and white supremacy.

In response, she told People that she “leads with kindness” and decided to address the controversy to clarify her stance. “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m always trying to bring people together. I’m against hate and divisiveness,” she said.
Sweeney’s next movie, The Housemaid, is out on December 19 in the US and three days later in the UK. She stars as a housemaid who starts working for a wealthy couple – played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar – and their family, before uncovering dark secrets while at work.
And Sweeney wasn’t the only big name to miss out on Golden Globes nominations. Among those also to be ignored were Gwyneth Paltrow, though her movie Marty Supreme is up for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy, Jennifer Lopez in Kiss Of The Spider Woman and Hugh Jackman in Song Sung Blue, though Kate Hudson is up for Best Female Actor – Musical/Comedy for her role in the drama.
Wicked: For Good, meanwhile, received five nominations but missed out on Best Picture and Best Director.
The movies to receive the most nominations were One Battle After Another with nine, Sentimental Value with eight, and Sinners with seven. In terms of TV shows, The White Lotus led the way with six, while Adolescence got five and Only Murders In The Building and Severance got four apiece – check out the full list of nominations here.
At the nominations ceremony, Marlon Wayans was criticised for “butchering” the names of those up for awards next year – majorly mispronouncing names including Ludwig Göransson and Elle Fanning.
The Golden Globes 2026 will again be hosted by Nikki Glaser, and the ceremony is set to take place on January 11.
