Jack Nicholson has been pictured for only the second time this year after appearing in his daughter’s Thanksgiving Instagram post.
The legendary star has remained out of the public eye for years, having last appeared in the romantic comedy How Do You Know in 2010. While not officially retired, he is said to prefer a quiet life away from the spotlight. He was seen for the first time publicly in two years in an Instagram post in January, and made a cameo appearance during the ‘SNL50’ TV special in February.
Yesterday (December 4), he appeared again on his daughter Lorraine Nicholson’s Instagram account, in a post with a gallery of photos from the Thanksgiving season. The Oscar winner posed smiling with Lorraine and her brother, actor Ray Nicholson.
With a total of 12 nods, Nicholson is the most-nominated male performer in Oscars history. He won for One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms Of Endearment and As Good As It Gets, making him one of only six actors to have won three Academy Awards.
He is also famous for his roles in classic movies such as The Shining, The Bucket List, and for playing The Joker in Tim Burton’s 1989 blockbuster Batman.
In 2023, a friend of the actor explained what keeps the actor away from the big screen. “A friend of mine wanted to put him in a movie,” Hollywood producer Lou Adler told Marc Maron on the latter’s podcast. “And he had a conversation with him. But Jack says, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ He goes, ‘You know what I did today? I sat under a tree and I read a book.’”
Earlier this year, the star’s former partner Anjelica Huston recalled how Jack Nicholson called her and offered her a place to stay when she was evacuated during the L.A. Wildfires. “The phone just rang out of nowhere, and it was him. It’s always a comfort when he calls.” She said. “It was heartbreakingly sweet. I’ve gone back over it several times in my head, and I think next time I’d accept the invitation.”
