Lebanon Hanover, the enigmatic Anglo-Swiss duo of Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline, have unveiled “Torture Rack,” a heartbreaking new single accompanied by an equally evocative, dreamy visual from their highly anticipated next studio album, “Asylum Lullabies.“
“Asylum Lullabies” is described as “a very heavy album about dealing with mental health struggles, a breakup, and ongoing wars, and the current horror in the world, ultimately leaving one consumed with dread, fear, and a constant feeling of being crushed,” and where “everything falls apart at the same time.”
“Torture Rack” drifts through a somber, circular haze—a lullaby sung to dull the sting of anguish driven by discordant mechanical sounds and rhythmic drumbeats. Larissa Iceglass’s mournful vocals float over slow, hypnotic melodies, immersing listeners in a dissociative fog where heartache pulses softly yet relentlessly. Amid imagery of gasoline-fueled escapes beneath expansive skies and roads littered with emotional debris, the track captures a heartbreaking paralysis: a mind spinning anxiously in circles, a heart thudding steadily like a distant techno beat. Iceglass paints a portrait of quiet obsession and muted torment, suspended on a metaphorical torture rack, gently but persistently pulled between escape and entrapment, memory and oblivion.
Directed by London’s visionary artist Tamas Mesmer, the music video is a compelling journey into existential distress. Mesmer, known for crafting visuals steeped in surrealism and unease, previously collaborated with Lebanon Hanover on the visually arresting Better Than Going Under and the provocative Come Kali Come, along with the chilling Funeral Fashion for Qual.
Mesmer’s cinematic touch expertly magnifies the song’s visceral emotions. Captured entirely in striking black-and-white, the video positions Lebanon Hanover amidst a decaying amusement park—a haunting landscape reflecting emotional turmoil. Rusted ferris wheels and neglected rides form a desolate backdrop for Iceglass’s hypnotically languid vocals, creating an eerie sensation of distorted time, a hypnagogic feeling akin to drifting through a dream induced by melatonin.

Following their critically lauded album Sci-Fi Sky, Lebanon Hanover have continuously teased new material, including the gripping double A-side single Better Than Going Under and Kyiv, alongside stark reinterpretations of classics like Depeche Mode’s Strangelove and Steve Miller Band’s Abracadabra. These releases have maintained their status as pivotal figures in the darkwave scene, generating heightened anticipation for their next album, Asylum Lullabies.
Until recent years, Lebanon Hanover’s live presence in North America has historically been scarce, which has enhanced the band’s mystique. Their celebrated 2023 comeback tour, orchestrated by Persona Grata, reignited passionate interest after a ten-year hiatus, marked by sold-out performances in major cities. These shows revitalized their connection with audiences first captivated by their influential 2013 release, Tomb For Two.
Building upon that highly appreciated return by their fanbase, Lebanon Hanover are poised to embark on an extensive North American tour throughout 2025 and 2026. Curated by Persona Grata, the tour will sweep through the East Coast and Midwest in autumn 2025, before heading West and Southwest in spring 2026. Highly anticipated Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal, along with a standout Halloween-weekend performance at Chicago’s Sanctum Festival, promise audiences an unforgettable live immersion into the duo’s atmospheric world.
