Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has expressed his interest in the role of Harry Potter character Professor Dumbledore.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Brosnan initially reacted to fans speculation that he could return to the James Bond franchise, this time playing MI6 chief M. The Irish actor played the secret agent from 1995 until 2002, later being replaced by Daniel Craig.
“That’s nuts. Oh for God’s sake, let’s see where the wind takes us” he joked about the rumours, before adding: “My wife tells me some of this stuff, about the buzz going on here and there, but she hadn’t told me that one”.
He then revealed the role he would very much like – that of Professor Dumbledore in the forthcoming Harry Potter series. “I’ve always had my eyes on Dumbledore as my hair has gotten greyer and the maturity of life is now upon my visage and shoulders” he said.

Richard Harris, who played the part in the first two Harry Potter films, was the biological uncle of Pierce Brosnan’s two adopted children by his first wife, the late Cassandra Harris. “It’s a joke with my family, the Dumbledore thing – that I’ll go into my Dumbledore years” he said. “I don’t want to go there … particularly right now, but if I was asked (to play the part) I probably would say yes”.
This ambition seems unlikely at the moment, given that American actor John Lithgow has confirmed he has been cast in the role. Speaking recently about the series, due to air in 2026, he discussed what he anticipated from the project.
“You know, Dumbledore is — he’s kind of the nuclear weapon. He only goes on very, very occasionally” he said. “And I think that — I don’t think it’s gonna be that hard a job, and we’ll just go back and forth”.
