Netflix started offering games to subscribers in 2021 and there are currently more than 120 different mobile titles available on the platform. Last year, Squid Game: Unleashed was released to promote the second season and now bosses have revealed they want more crossover between their shows and video games.

“In games you want to be in a world and tell your own story. Bridgerton is a perfect example,” Netflix games chief Alain Tascan told Variety. “If I was in the world of Harry Potter, I don’t want to be Harry Potter. I’m myself and I’m going to choose a different house and I’m going to do different spells and I want to tell my own story,” he continued.

“So we have to find worlds that are very attractive for people to be in and to tell their own stories. Bridgerton is one. I think Stranger Things has a lot of potential there. I believe One Piece is another one that I would love to explore.”

Tascan didn’t reveal if anything would be released to coincide with Stranger Things’ final season, which is due out later this year. However he did say the secret to a successful crossover would be finding the right show and gaming concept that live harmoniously together. “I’m not going to do a shooter with Bridgerton.”

Netflix previously released retro adventure game Stranger Things: 1984 in 2021 while the third season was also turned into a mobile brawler.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tascan revealed Netflix wanted to create video games that impacted the plot of its shows. “Imagine a world where you watch something and then you’re entering the world [in the game] and let’s say you break something or you kill a character and then you go back to watch the following [episode] and all the things that you’ve broken [are] broken the way you broke it.” However that technology seems to be a long way off with Tascan admitting that Netflix recently “crashed the servers with something simple”.

The Russo Brothers’ recent Netflix movie The Electric State was supported with a mobile game prequel and the directors recently said they’d be open to working on an Avengers-inspired title while shooting Doomsday

In other news, a number of planned expansions for Hogwarts Legacy have been scrapped, according to a new report.
