Jack Black has shared a new original song called ‘I Feel Alive’ from the soundtrack of the upcoming A Minecraft Movie.

WaterTower Music, part of the Warner Bros. movie studio, released an official lyric video for the uplifting new rock song on YouTube today, March 20. Watch it below.
A Minecraft Movie is based on the titular best-selling video game, which is set in a land made entirely of square-shaped blocks called the Overworld. It stars Black as Steve, a man obsessed with mining who gets pulled into the Overworld after finding a mysterious glowing block.
He’s later joined through the portal by four others: Jason Momoa’s Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, Danielle Brooks’ Dawn, Emma Myers’ Natalie and Sebastian Hansen’s Henry. According to the synopsis, “To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter: Steve.”
A trailer for the film dropped in September 2024, but was not received well, with many fans on the internet reacting negatively to the film’s visual style.
‘I Feel Alive’ appears to play on the Minecraft connection, with lyrics including ‘I move mountains with my mind’ and ‘I don’t wanna be running from zombies for the rest of our lives’, referencing the antagonistic characters from the game.
This comes after a parody video, with the creator doing an impression of what a Jack Black Minecraft song could potentially sound like, went viral in 2024 when Black announced he would be singing in the movie.
The music for A Minecraft Movie is written by American musician and composer Mark Mothersbaugh, whose breakthrough came as part of new wave band Devo, with their single ‘Whip It’ reaching the top 20 in the US in 1980.
The film’s director Jared Hess recently revealed that Black had gone “as method as it gets” whilst shooting, and that he was playing the game in his trailer any chance he could get.
A Minecraft Movie will be released in cinemas on April 4.
