Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena were separated for four months before he died, according to a medical examiner’s report.

As reported by People, the report from the LA County Medical Examiner-Coronor confirms that Plaza and Baena separated in September 2024.
It states that a month later, Baena made “concerning remarks” to Plaza that led the actor to call a friend and ask them to perform a welfare check on him. It also details that Baena had been in therapy, and that he and Plaza were “experiencing recent marital difficulties”.
Baena died by suicide on January 3, aged 47. The report states that his body was found in his LA residence by his dogwalker.

The filmmaker was best known for directing Life After Beth and The Little Hours, both of which starred Plaza. They also collaborated on the 2016 comedy drama Joshy. His other directing credits include Horse Girl, a 2020 psychological drama, and Spin Me Round, a 2022 dark comedy that was to be his final feature.
Plaza and Baena had been in a relationship since 2011, marrying at a private ceremony at their home in 2021. On January 6, Plaza and Baena’s family released a statement regarding his death, which read: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time”.
Parks And Recreation star Plaza deleted her Instagram account after Baena’s death, and made her first public appearance after it at SNL50 in February. She was last seen on screen in Marvel’s Agatha All Along.
