A Return to Avalon — Rosegarden Funeral Party Release Enchanting Video for “A Different Kind of Carnage”

The chains arrive like a whisper; light as thread, soft as breath, gentle as a promise never meant to be kept. They slip around the wrists, weightless at first, an embrace mistaken for comfort. Days pass; nights dissolve; the hands forget their strength. The mind bends, the body obeys. The glass holds a reflection no longer familiar, blurred by a fog too thick to see through. And yet—somewhere, a tremor; a shudder of reckoning. A hand twitches, a voice stirs, a will long buried begins to rise. The first step is heavy, the next uncertain… but the road is open.

The knight wakes in rusted armor, blade dulled, shield splintered, bearing the bruises of a thousand battles fought and lost. The enemy speaks in soft seduction, disguised as mercy, whispering surrender. But beneath the weight, a fire flickers. The gauntlets loosen, the visor lifts. The hands remember their grip. The knight rides forward, weary but unbroken.

A Different Kind of Carnage, the latest single from Rosegarden Funeral Party‘s latest album From The Ashes, continues the band’s legacy of blending gothic sonics with modern pop sensibility and emotionally evocative storytelling. Leah Lane, the band’s frontwoman, described the song as both a deeply personal reflection and a nod to the influences of Roxy Music’s Avalon era, A Different Kind of Carnage is about acknowledging and breaking free from the bondage of addiction—whether it’s to substances, unhealthy relationships, or self-destructive behaviours.

“It’s a call to arms for one’s own self-preservation, inspired by the elegant, medieval-meets-high-fashion visuals of Roxy Music’s work,” she says. “This song and video represent my journey of turning the page and reclaiming my power.”

The music video was directed, filmed, and edited by Erin Devany of All Hallows Productions, marking the latest collaboration in a creative partnership spanning over seven years and 40 music videos. The video concept was inspired by a surprising snowstorm in Texas and the work of photographer Naya Kotko.

“Every time that Leah and I embark on a new creative journey, we tend to take somewhat of a blind approach,” says Devany. “This one in particular was spur of the moment, driven by surprise Texas weather and visual inspiration. We took to the frozen wilderness, threw caution to the wind, and balanced the stark brightness of snow with warm, dark visuals captured in my backyard. The snow nearly broke my camera and froze our fingers to the bone, but it was worth every second. Each scene fell into place perfectly, belonging alongside the song’s haunting beauty.”
