In this week’s The Cover, XG reflect on the long road to discovering their own identity in the competitive idol music scene, while aiming to bring their cultural roots to the rest of the world. “We have a lot of pride in our Japanese heritage and culture,” says group leader Jurin, “so we’re trying to figure out how to integrate that and incorporate it into the larger XG brand.”

The girl group also touch on their upcoming Coachella debut in April, where they’ll be carrying the torch for their home country as the only Japanese act on the line-up this year. “We were like deer in headlights,” Jurin adds of the moment they found out about the booking. “But then we saw Coachella’s official lineup image with ‘XG’ on it, and that’s when it really hit us. We couldn’t stop sharing it with each other, saying, ‘Oh my God, look, guys, we’re on the list.’”
