The Witcher 4 will swap the series’ main protagonist Geralt Of Rivia for his adopted daughter Ciri, and voice actor Doug Cockle couldn’t be more excited.

Cockle has been the voice of Geralt for the past 17 years, with the first three Witcher games focusing on his monster-slaying adventures. However at the end of last year it was revealed that The Witcher 4 would be the start of a new saga, with players following the exploits of Geralt’s adopted daughter Ciri.
Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga went on to say that it was a “very organic, very logical” choice to focus on Ciri after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
“It was always about her, starting from Saga when you read it in the books. She’s an amazing, layered character,” Mitręga said. “And of course, as a protagonist we said goodbye to Geralt previously. So this is a continuation. I guess for all of us it’s like she was meant to be.”
Now Cockle has shared his feelings about the change. Speaking to IGN about Netflix’s new Witcher show Sirens Of The Deep, Geralt’s voice actor said it was “a really good move.”
“I mean, I always thought that continuing the saga, but shifting to Ciri would be a really, really interesting move for all kinds of reasons, but mostly because of things that happen in the books, which I don’t want to give away because I want people to go read,” he continued. “So yeah, I think it’s really exciting. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done.”
Last year, Cockle admitted that he didn’t know how much Geralt would feature in The Witcher 4 – with developers CD Projekt Red giving him a “slap on the wrist” for the spoilers. However a familiar voice can be heard at the very end of the first teaser trailer, seemingly confirming his return. A release date for The Witcher 4 is yet to be announced, with fans expecting a 2026 launch at the earliest.
In other news, the first new Ninja Gaiden game in more than a decade has been announced and will release later this year.
