Berlin’s William Bleak Descends into Darkness in The Video for “Stay Cold”

Berlin’s William Bleak plunges into the grimy undertow of post-punk and cold wave, where frantic guitars clash with thunderous basslines and relentless electronic beats. Their sound snarls and seethes, a cacophony teetering on the edge of chaos, alive with raw energy. It’s a reckless, feverish swirl—part dirge, part dance, a furious ode to dissonance and defiance.

Stay Cold, the lead track from William Bleak’s Traumazone, strikes with surgical ferocity, slicing through the din with frostbitten resolve. Angular guitars scrape against a foundation of thundering basslines, while chilling synths coil and crackle like frozen wire. The four tracks bristle with relentless, raw tension, conjuring the defiant echoes of post-punk stalwarts like Clan of Xymox, Killing Joke, and Xmal Deutschland. This is not music for the faint-hearted but an excavation of the genre’s darker corridors, unflinching and unadorned.

The accompanying video for Stay Cold, directed by Alberto Caffarelli, is a grim visual counterpoint to the song’s austere sonics. The band moves through the haunting relics of abandoned industry: dripping walls, rusted beams, and the confined space of an antique elevator. Vast industrial decay is juxtaposed with suffocating enclosures, framing a tension that grows heavier with every second. The claustrophobic aspect ratio cages the viewer in their bleak dystopia, forcing an unblinking gaze at a world drained of warmth yet teeming with suppressed longing. This is no simple performance: it’s an arresting collision of sound and vision, an unrelenting exploration of the boundaries between desolation and defiance.
