On Monday (January 20), Trump was sworn into office for his second term as President of the United States. The declaration came as part of a series of executive orders that Trump signed on his first day back in the White House.

“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump confirmed in his inaugural speech, appearing to have confused the terms “sex” and “gender”.

Sex refers to biological characteristics of a human whereas gender refers to characteristics of male and female that are socially constructed.

“It will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female,” says President Trump.

His administration clarified the order, explaining that it would recognise two sexes only – male and female – and declare that they cannot be changed and that federal employers would need to use the term sex, not gender.

Now, Dacus has taken to her official X/Twitter account to share how she will be supporting the trans community during this time of hardship.

“If trans people wanna comment surgery gofundmes, I’m gonna give away 10k in $500 increments until it’s gone, & if other people wanna scroll through and make donations, please do,” she tweeted.

She continued: “The government will never be the source of our validation or protection, we have to do it ourselves.”

Dacus joins a slew of artists and musicians who have addressed Trump’s executive order. Prior to his inauguration, Ariana Grande shared a series of Instagram Stories highlighting the struggles that the LGBTQIA+ community have faced during the election campaign from Trump’s administration and his supporters.

After Trump’s policy declaration, she shared a repost on Instagram Stories that reads: “Let’s be very clear: queer and trans people were here before Donald Trump and will continued to be here after he’s dead. Whether or not you want to us to exist is secondary to the simple fact that we do. The sun does not care if you sign an executive order telling it to stop rising each morning. It just continues to rise.”

Aurora – who has come out as bisexual – took to Instagram Stories to offer solace to her transgender followers: “To all my [transgender] friends, coworkers and in general all the beautiful members of the trans community in the USA, which if haven’t had the pleasure to meet yet. I am in deep sorrow of how you have been failed by your own government.”

Garbage wrote on Instagram: “Queer, trans and non binary peoples have existed since the dawn of time. They will continue to exist whether you choose to recognise this or not. They will exist long past the current administration and long past all of our lifetimes.

“An enormous shout out to so many of our beautiful friends who have to wake up this morning feeling pressured and fearful. We stand with you all. You belong in this world as much as anyone else does. Of course you all know this. Only an uneducated person or an unnecessarily cruel person would think otherwise. We send you our love this morning and every morning. You go on being beautiful you. That’s what you do. Go baby go. We are right behind you.”

Many social media users also took to various platforms to share their reactions to the order. “This executive order is a step backward in recognising the diversity of human experience and identity. Gender is not binary. it’s a spectrum that includes many identities beyond male and female,” wrote one user.

They continued: “By enforcing a rigid definition, we’re not only erasing the lived experiences of non-binary, transgender, and gender non-conforming individuals but also promoting discrimination and exclusion. Every person deserves to have their identity acknowledged and respected by their government.

“Policies should reflect the reality of gender diversity and promote inclusivity, not division. We need to champion policies that protect the rights of all citizens, including those in the LGBTQ+ community, rather than rolling back hard-fought progress for political gain. #TransRightsAreHumanRights”

Another user shared: “Imagine this being your priority over things like giving people healthcare, helping the environment or improving the minimum wage…”

In other news, Dacus recently announced her forthcoming album ‘Forever Is A Feeling’, and dropped two lead singles called ‘Ankles’ and ‘Limerence’.

She also shared details of new US tour dates, which will see her hit the road with support coming from MUNA’s Katie Gavin and jasmine.4.t. The shows follow on from her previously-announced ‘An Evening With’ dates in February. You can visit here to see a full list of dates and purchase tickets.
