Last week, production on the second season of his Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin was cancelled after the star left the show midway through shooting.

The series, which offers a fictional take on the 18th century highwayman co-starred Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville and Shameless star David Threlfall. Season two co-stars were set to include Jason Isaacs and comedian Dawn French.

Fielding’s agent at PBJ Management gave a statement to Deadline, saying: “One of the main cast members who has not been well is not recovered enough to complete the filming”. The representative added that it was “hugely disappointing” that filming was not able to continue. In response, Deadline’s sources claimed that the “cast member” mentioned was Fielding.

As a result there were fears that he may not return for the next series of The Great British Bake-Off. Work on the baking contest is due to start within weeks and a filming date has been set for April.

But according to the Metro, a spokesperson for the star confirmed that he will be returning to co-host the next series of the Channel 4 show.

NME has contacted his spokesperson for further comment.

Coming to prominence thanks to comedy show The Mighty Boosh, which aired from 2004-2007, Fielding has presented The Great British Bake Off since 2017, as well as appearing as a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks since 2021. He has also been a voice actor in film The Lego Movie 2, and Netflix‘s Disenchantment.

Recently, Fielding told a story about once being stopped by police while wearing Courtney Love’s pyjamas. He also reflected on his “partying” days with the singer in the ’00s ahead of a recent appearance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
