Lynch was best known for creating TV series Twin Peaks but his “Lynchian” style of filmmaking has also inspired a number of video games. And following his death last week, a number of creators have taken to social media to pay tribute.

Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone wrote: “I am very sad to hear about David Lynch. I really admired his steadfast commitment to his own artistic vision. One of my favourite movies of his is The Straight Story (Rated G). I also really liked Eraserhead and of course, Twin Peaks. I will never forget him and his work.”

“Without David Lynch’s work none of the games I worked on would be the same,” said developer Michel Koch, who helped create Life Is Strange. “His vision, his weirdness, his calm and poetry… there is magic in his work that feels so different, so natural yet otherworldly… thank you and bon voyage!”

The official Life Is Strange X account added: “Thank you David Lynch for what your work gave us and the community. We don’t know what’s next for you, but we have a feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.”

Indie studio Kaizen Games called Lynch “one of our biggest influences” while streamer Dreamboum explained that “David Lynch was your favourite game designer’s favourite creator. Lynch was the guiding light in making a conscious attempt to approach things outside of the norm.”

“Almost goes without saying that David Lynch has had a profound effect on video games too. From Sam Lake and Remedy, to Life Is Strange and Dontnod, Kentucky Route Zero, Swery and Deadly Premonition. A lot inspired by Lynchian film,” added journalist Hayes Madsen.

“Tonight, I continue to honour David Lynch,” said Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima. “Rewatching my favourite episode from Twin Peaks: The Return, Part 8, Gotta Light?.

“It’s an episode I revisit from time to time when I’m feeling low. From Nine Inch Nails’ performance at the Roadhouse to the Trinity nuclear test scene, the surreal 2001: A Space Odyssey-style visuals, and even Bob making an appearance—it’s all there. And of course, that creature is just the best.”

Lynch’s family confirmed his death last week via a statement shared on social media. Later, it was reported that his death came after he was “forced to relocate from his house” due to the Los Angeles wildfires.

Last year, Lynch revealed he had been diagnosed with emphysema, which causes issues with breathing. Following his death, a number of gaming fans shared his weirdo PlayStation 2 advert from 2000.

David Lynch‘s children have invited fans to a “worldwide group meditation” to honour his legacy, which will take place later today (January 20).
