Nintendo Switch 2 officially unveiled in first look trailer

Nintendo has officially unveiled the Switch 2 with a first look teaser trailer.

Fans have been given their first official look at the successor to the Nintendo Switch with a short, two-minute teaser trailer.

The video was shared earlier today (January 16) and seems to confirm a bigger, more powerful console. Check it out below:

No new games have been announced for the Switch 2 yet, with the teaser trailer using footage of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to showcase the console.

Nintendo has yet to reveal the technical specifications of the new console but the reveal trailer seemingly confirms a number of leaks that have made their way online in recent weeks. Originally Nintendo tried to downplay the leaks as “not official”.

The Switch 2 announcement comes after several reports that Nintendo was set to unveil the console this week.

As part of today’s unveiling, it also been confirmed that you’ll be able to play digital and physical Switch games on the new console, though “certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” Further details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The release date, price and range of launch titles for the Switch 2 hasn’t been announced yet but Nintendo has confirmed a dedicated Direct presentation for April 2. The console will release at some point this year.

If you want to be among the first to test out the Switch 2, Nintendo is hosting a series of hands-on experiences across the world. These will take place in April, after the full reveal of the console and will presumably feature new games to test out.

Go hands-on with #NintendoSwitch2 at Nintendo Switch 2 Experience: London, held Apr 11th – Apr 13th at Excel London.

A free Nintendo Account is required to register.
