An new trailer for The Witcher: Sirens Of The Deep has dropped ahead of its February 11 launch on Netflix – watch it below.
The trailer unveils Doug Cockle as the voice of protagonist Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill, who portrayed the character in the main Netflix series from 2019 to 2023. It’s not Cockle’s first time voicing Geralt, however, with the actor voicing him in CD Projekt Red’s video game trilogy.
According to an official synopsis for Sirens Of The Deep: “Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends – old and new – to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into all-out war.”
Based on the short story A Little Sacrifice, it’s set between the fifth and sixth episodes of the series’ first season, expanding on the world of the Continent.
Cavill has also left the main series, being replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the upcoming season four. He said, upon standing down: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season four.
“In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.
“Liam, good sir, this character has such wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you find.”
Netflix confirmed last April that the main series will end with season five, with the final two seasons adapting the remaining three books, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake, by author Andrzej Sapkowski.
Sirens Of The Deep, meanwhile, is the second animated movie in the franchise, after Nightmare Of The Wolf came out in August 2021. There’s also a prequel miniseries, Blood Origin, which was released in December 2022.
While Cavill isn’t taking part in the movie, the likes of Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey, who play the sorcerer Yennefer of Vengerberg and the bard Jaskier respectively in the series, are reprising their roles. Christina Wren, meanwhile, will be voicing the new character Essi Daven, a love interest for Geralt.
Sirens Of The Deep was originally planned for release late last year, but it was announced in September that it was to be delayed until February this year.
