‘Succession’ creator Jesse Armstrong has confirmed his next project

The creator of hit HBO show Succession, Jesse Armstrong, has announced his next project, an original movie set around a financial crisis.

The film is still being written, but the network is fast-tracking it to start production later this year.

Armstrong is writing the as-yet-untitled film, which he will also produce alongside Succession executive producer Frank Rich. Details about the plot are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports that it follows the story of four friends who convene during a dramatic international financial crisis.

Succession ran from 2018 to 2023, telling the story of media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and the fight among his family to take over from him when he announces his retirement.

The show achieved 75 Emmy nominations and 19 wins, including three Outstanding Drama Series awards. It was hailed by NME as “the best show on TV” in its season three review, describing it as an experience that “isn’t like sitting through any other TV show”.

British writer Armstrong broke through in UK television, co-creating the comedy shows Peep Show and Fresh Meat as well as writing political satire The Thick Of It. He earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing the film 2009 In The Loop.

In October, it was announced that the sitcom Back, made by Peep Show co-creator Simon Blackwell and stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb, would be getting an American remake for HBO.

Recently, Succession cast member Keiran Culkin confessed he hasn’t watched the finale of the show, while co-star Jeremy Strong revealed working on the series “fucked me up” and he has no desire to return to the character he played.

Meanwhile, Brian Cox expanded on his criticism of Strong’s method acting, saying “he would be an even better actor if he just got rid of that”.
