Aubrey Plaza deletes Instagram account following death of husband Jeff Baena

Marvel actor Aubrey Plaza has deleted her Instagram account following the death of her husband Jeff Baena, who died January 3 at the age of 47.

The address for the account, which had over five million followers prior to deletion, now leads to an error message that reads: “Sorry, this page isn’t available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.”

Baena’s body was reported to have been discovered at his home in Los Angeles by an assistant, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death was confirmed as suicide by the Los Angeles County medical examiner on January 7.

The filmmaker was best known for his 2014 horror-comedy Life After Beth, which starred Plaza, as well as writing the indie drama I Heart Huckabees. Baena and Plaza had been together since 2011, marrying in a private ceremony at their home in 2021.

The star has made no comment on her husband’s passing other than a brief statement on behalf of both Plaza and Baena’s family. The statement said: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time”.

Baena is survived by Plaza, as well as his mother Barbara Stern, stepfather Roger Stern, father Scott Baena, stepmother Michele Baena and his brother Brad Baena. Tributes have been posted online from New Girl star Jake Johnson, actor Adam Pally, and SNL comedian Molly Shannon.

A public display of support was given by The Brutalist director Brady Corbet, who took a moment in his speech during his recent Golden Globe win to send his thoughts to Plaza and Baena’s family. The dedication was met with warm applause from those in attendance.
