On Friday (January 8), the actor took to social media to share that she and her family have been in talks with California Governor Gavin Newsom and other state leaders to discuss where the funds will be best used and needed the most.

She wrote on Instagram: “As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.”

Following her post, Curtis – who has a home in the affected area of the Pacific Palisades but also has a home in New York – spoke of the catastrophe while appearing on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

She said: “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning. I flew here last night, I was on a plane and I was getting texts… it’s fucking gnarly you guys. It’s just a catastrophe. Obviously there have been horrific fires in many places – this is literally where I live. Everything, the market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, the many, many, many friends now how have lost their homes.”

She continued, urging viewers to help and stay ready: “If you know anybody on the West Coast or not, the American Red Cross – support them, they will come in and help people. Do anything you can, anything in your community to help people. Whether you need it or not now, you will need it. And remember, for anyone living anywhere, have an emergency kit ready in your house. Have an emergency kit with prescription glasses, medicine, dog food, baby formula, all the things you need if you have to flee.”

Elsewhere on the show, in an effort to lift spirits, Curtis and Jimmy Fallon aired a skit that would see her recreate the iconic aerobics jazzercise dance scene from the 1985 film Perfect.
