Fortnite Festival is the online video game’s dedicated music mode. It launched at the end of 2023 with The Weeknd as the game’s first headline artist. Since then, the likes of Lady Gaga, Metallica and Billie Eilish have teamed up with Fortnite Festival for virtual gigs and limited-time events while users can play along to a number of tracks.
Fortnite Festival was developed by Harmoix, who also created Rock Band. First launched in 2007 and building on the success of Guitar Hero, Rock Band encouraged groups of friends to pick up a range of plastic instruments and play along to classic tracks.
A new update for Fortnite Festival will look to recreate that communal magic. From January 14, Xbox and PlayStation players will be able to play Festival in local co-op mode, meaning users can be in the same room and use the same console to play the game. “Get the band back together,” reads the official announcement, alongside a brief teaser clip featuring Snoop Dogg.

More information about the mode is due soon but developers have confirmed up to four players can play at the same time, with up to two guitar controllers allowed per game.
“Now we are talking,” wrote one fan. “That’s one huge step out of the way. Now just need drums and vocals and they will start bleeding my wallet dry.”
“Let’s fucking go. It took them over a year, but they finally added my most requested feature, now I can finally play this as a party game, without audio delays because we’re playing different screens,” said another.
Last year, Fortnite confirmed it would be supporting Festival through 2025 “and beyond” after it announced that its Rocket Racing mode would be receiving no further updates.
In other news, Marvel Rivals‘ bumper season one update has quietly shut down all mods but that hasn’t stopped the hero-shooter having its biggest weekend yet.
