Brandy has announced details of her debut memoir – you can find more information below.

The Grammy-winning singer and actor (full name Brandy Rayana Norwood) is due to release the as-yet-untitled book on October 7. You can pre-order it here.

Per an official description, the project provides “a raw, intimate portrait of her life, charting her growth to stardom from Mississippi churches to Hollywood spotlights”. It adds: “Brandy’s debut memoir is a fearless and remarkable story of hope, resilience and the strength it takes to make peace with the past.”

The book delves into the artist’s career, from her landing a record deal aged 14 before releasing her platinum-selling debut album at 15.

She would go on to star in the hit sitcom Moesha aged 16, and became the first Black actress to play a Disney princess when she portrayed the titular character in the 1997 TV film Cinderella.

Announcing the upcoming book on social media, Brandy wrote: “Writing my memoir was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. I allowed myself the space to be fearless and vulnerable to reveal some of my most intimate moments.

“For the first time, I am sharing my story – honest, unfiltered and not through the lens of media or critics.”

She continued: “From singing in church as a little girl in McComb, Mississippi, touring across the world, starring as Moesha, and becoming the first Black Cinderella – I’ve experienced unforgettable highs.

“But what you didn’t see were the struggles behind the scenes, the trials that tested my spirit and shaped the woman I am today.”

Brandy added: “This memoir is more than a book; it’s a reflection of resilience, hope and rediscovering myself beyond the fame, the music and the spotlight. This memoir is a lifetime in the making, and I hope my words bring inspiration as you navigate your own journey.”

The official description also notes how the “real story” of Brandy’s life sees her recall “the stratospheric highs and the unimaginable lows, the groundbreaking moments and the relatable journey she had to take to discover her authentic self – as a woman, a mother, an artist – as Brandy”.

Brandy, 45, is best known for her 1998 hit collaborative single with Monica, ‘The Boy Is Mine’. The song peaked at Number Two in the UK, and Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. It remains one of the best-selling female duets of all time.

Last year, Ariana Grande released a reimagined version of the track for her latest album ‘Eternal Sunshine’. A remix of Grande’s ‘The Boy Is Mine’ arrived shortly afterwards, featuring both Brandy and Monica.

The collaboration is nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award at the Grammys 2025. In 1999, Brandy and Monica won the Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Duo Or Group prize with the original single.
