In the fourth episode of the new season of the hit BBC show, the three players who volunteered to sacrifice themselves – and leave the train to the castle before the game began – returned.

Community development manager Fozia, former British diplomat Alexander and market trader and gardener Jack were all brought back during the mission, in which they were suspended in cages in the air and the other players had to find golden coins to get them down. The twist was, only two of the three returning players could enter the game.

Yorkshireman Jack was the unlucky one, left in his cage as the players lowered Fozia and Alexander to the ground.

The result left some fans unhappy, as many took to social media to share their commiserations that Jack wouldn’t be a part of the show going forward.

Jack???? Our Yorkshire, 6ft5, garden hero. I am sorry they failed you. They are all traitors now in my eyes x #TheTraitors

Fuming that we have missed out on Jack for a second time, he had so much potential to be an entertaining player #thetraitors
