The soloist and Boygenius member shared a 40-second clip of a handwritten note on TikTok yesterday (January 7). It is soundtracked by a portion of the song, which Dacus debuted at Julien Baker’s gig in Brooklyn last autumn.
“ATTENTION,” she wrote. “I am seeking some people to be in the music video for this song. “If you are smooth or suave or can pretend to be. Maybe you’re a hot masc. Maybe you are simply willing and able and not afraid to be on camera.
As for how fans can get involved, Dacus explained: “Use this sound with a video of yourself looking cool and my team will reach out from this account by next week with more info.”
She added: “It’s a little early, but there’s a specific window where we have to make this happen, so I hope you enjoy this little bit of ‘Best Guess’.”

In the teaser clip of the forthcoming track, Dacus sings: “Clasping your necklace/ Zipping your dress/ Hands on your waist/ Kissing your neck/ I love your body/ I love your mind/ They will change /So will mine.”
An exact release date for Dacus’ ‘Best Guess’ is not yet known. In the meantime, you can revisit the live version below.
The singer-songwriter recently announced a brief US tour for next month, marking her first solo gigs in over two years. Dacus will be performing “mostly new songs” during these sets in Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Dacus released her third and latest solo album, ‘Home Video’, in 2021 before regrouping with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker on Boygenius’ acclaimed debut LP ‘The Record’ (2023).
The album earned the group three Grammys, and was crowned NME‘s best album of 2023. Additionally, Boygenius picked up the International Group Of The Year prize at the BRIT Awards 2024.
The trio announced their hiatus at a secret LA show early last year. “We’re going away for the foreseeable future,” fans quoted them as saying. “This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.”
Dacus later reflected on Boygenius’ hugely successful past 12 months, writing: “It is not lost on me what a rare experience I’m getting to live.”
In December 2023, Boygenius told NME that they liked the idea of the group’s future remaining “a surprise”. Baker said: “I like having this band be something that, because it’s more ephemeral or whatever, it’s not concretely tied to one of us or a person we have to live in every day.
“It’s something we can revisit when we feel motivated to, or it’s a place we can retreat to. I like saving it as something sacred instead of feeling like I have to constantly grind on it.”
In other news, Julien Baker and Torres have shared their country-inspired debut single together, ‘Sugar In The Tank’.
