Today (January 7), the streaming platform released the trailer for the highly anticipated K-drama, Newtopia. Set during the beginning of a zombie apocalypse, the upcoming series follows a soldier and his girlfriend’s journey as they attempt to reunite amid the chaos.

The new trailer opens with Kang Young-ju (BLACKPINK’s Jisoo) breaking up with a stunned Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min) over the phone. Hours later, Seoul descends into mayhem as a zombie apocalypse sweeps the city. At the same time, Jae-yoon is activated for duty to suppress the spread of zombies.

As the city becomes more dangerous, Young-ju begins to regret her decision to leave Jae-yoon and sends him a string of text messages announcing that she is on her way to find him. Torn between his duty as a soldier and his love for Young-ju, Jae-yoon finds himself in a series of absurd, life-threatening situations.

The series is helmed by director Yoon Sang-hyun, who previously worked on films like Bleak Night (2010) and Time to Hunt (2020). It is co-written by Han Jin-won, who is best known for his work on 2019’s Parasite with Bong Joon-ho, and A Shop for Killers‘ Ji Ho-jin.

Newtopia premieres on February 7 on South Korean streaming platform Coupang Play. The upcoming K-drama will also be available to stream globally on Prime Video. The series will mark Jisoo’s second leading role in a K-drama series, following 2021’s Snowdrop.
