Sony has confirmed hit PlayStation game Ghost Of Tsushima will be turned into an anime series.
Action-adventure game Ghost Of Tsushima was developed by Sucker Punch and launched in 2020. A multiplayer spin-off Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends followed in 2021 alongside a Director’s Cut of the original game.
In Ghost Of Tsushima, players take control of samurai warrior Jin Sakai, who’s the sole remaining member of Clan Sakai after the Japanese island of Tsushima is invaded by Mongol warriors. Left for dead after the battle, Jin Sakai teams up with the scavenger Yuna and learns the art of Guerrilla warfare in an attempt to free the island from Mongol rule. Players can utilise a mix of stealth and combat throughout the game.
The new anime series will take inspiration from both Ghost Of Tsushima and Legends and will premiere in 2027 on Crunchyroll. “The Ghost Of Tsushima anime will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking,” said Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini.
“Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first ever anime adaptation,” added head of PlayStation productions Asad Qizilbash. “Ghost Of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project.”

Sony Music will spearhead the soundtrack for the series. “We are excited to create new opportunities for our artists to engage with such incredible global IP,” said the label’s Tom Mackay. Sony Music is the home of Adele, Blink-182, Bring Me The Horizon, Harry Styles, Rosalía, SZA and others.
Last year, a sequel to Ghost Of Tsushima was announced. Ghost Of Yōtei will focus on a brand new protagonist with the game set 300 years after the events of the original game. A live-action film is also in development with Shōgun actor Hiroyuki Sanada reportedly set to star in the project.
In other news, Sony has also recently confirmed live-action adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2.
