The three British nominees Marisa Abela, David Jonsson and Nabhaan Rizwan have all appeared in the TV drama, playing Yasmin Kara-Hanani, Augustus ‘Gus’ Stackey and Hari Dhar respectively. The BBC and HBO series focuses on a group of young graduates vying for permanent roles at a prestigious investment bank in London.
Despite a major role in Industry, however, Abela may now be just as well known for her turn as the late Amy Winehouse in Back To Black, while Jonsson has appeared in Alien: Romulus, and Rizwan has starred in Informer and Kaos.
The trio are joined by two American nominees, Jharrel Jerome and Mikey Madison. Jerome is known for his role in the Netflix crime drama miniseries When They See Us, while Mikey Madison has appeared in the comedy-dramas Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and Anora.

Previous winners of the prestigious award include Mia McKenna-Bruce, Lashana Lynch, Bukky Bakray, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, James McAvoy, Emma Mackey, Tom Hardy, John Boyega and Micheal Ward. The panel of industry jurors selecting the nominees included McKenna-Bruce and Wright as well as BAFTA-winning actor and director Will Sharpe.
It’s the only award at the BAFTAs voted for by the general public, and voting is now open on EE’s website until 12pm on February 14. The winner will be announced on February 16 at the EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, hosted by David Tennant.
Ahead of the announcement, BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip said: “BAFTA created the EE Rising Star Award in honour of the late Mary Selway, a visionary casting director who dedicated her life to discovering and championing talent.
“Mary’s legacy lives on through this award, which celebrates two decades of our commitment to cultivating fresh voices, highlighting the transformative power of storytelling, creativity and innovation in film. This year’s nominees are five incredibly gifted individuals, whose work already activated audiences worldwide.”
Meanwhile, the BAFTA Awards longlist is out, and the musical crime comedy Emilia Pérez has 15 nominations on there. Mystery thriller Conclave has 14, while other movies make appearances including A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Apprentice, The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, Kneecap, The Substance, and Wicked.
As for Industry, NME rated its third season as the fifth-best TV show of 2024. David Renshaw wrote: “Industry-heads who invested in HBO’s high finance series as a fledgling stock were rewarded hugely this year, with the series reaching new dramatic heights and continuing to soar in value.”
