Fast & Furious co-stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson shared a frosty greeting at this year’s Golden Globes, seemingly suggesting that their feud isn’t over.

Diesel took to the stage to present the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which would go to Wicked. Before he read the nominees, he looked down at the stage and said “Hey Dwayne!” awkwardly, causing a ripple of laughter among the audience. The broadcast camera cut to Johnson, who was smiling but not exactly enthusiastic about seeing the star.

The pair first shared the screen in 2011’s Fast Five, with Johnson’s star power reigniting the franchise that began with Diesel. They would appear together in four of the next five instalments, with Johnson sitting out 2021’s F9 but getting his own spin-off with 2019’s Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Their feud can be traced back to 2016, when Johnson wrote in a now-deleted post about an unnamed co-star he called unprofessional and a “candyass”.

The wrestler-turned-actor would then confirm the rift in an interview with Rolling Stone, saying: “We have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach movie making and collaborating” as well as confirming the pair didn’t share any scenes in 2017’s The Fate Of The Furious. Diesel would admit to being confrontational on set, saying in an interview with Men’s Health “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love…I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

This apparent bad blood was put to rest in 2023 when Johnson remarked on Instagram “Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years”. Nevertheless, the Golden Globes exchange sparked speculation on X (formerly Twitter), with one user saying “You could literally see The Rock’s hatred towards Vin Diesel in that shot. Oh my gosh”. Others commented that the moment was “hella awkward”, while another argued it was the kind of “drama” the ceremony needed.

An untitled eleventh Fast & Furious film is slated for some time in 2026, while Johnson can next been seen playing MMA fighter Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. As for Diesel, he’s currently working on a fourth instalment in The Chronicles of Riddick franchise. Recently, past Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser criticised the actor for his lack of professionalism.
