Jodie Foster took home her fifth Golden Globe award at this year’s ceremony, but one of her fellow nominees made a good-natured heckle at the True Detective: Night Country star’s win.

Sofia Vergara, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her lead in Netflix show Griselda, was heard shouting “No! No!” as Foster took to the stage to collect her award. Vergara referenced her competitor’s history of winning by shouting “give me one!”, drawing laughter from the audience.
It seems as though Foster understood the joking nature of the protest, agreeing “I know, I know” as she accepted the award, while also acknowledging her in her acceptance speech.
“The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time is having a community of all these people – especially you Sofia” she said, pointing to the Modern Family star. Vergara was see smiling and warmly applauding after the speech, proving her anger was only in jest.
Alongside the Golden Globe, Foster’s performance as detective Liz Danvers in True Detective: Night Country has also seen her pick up an Emmy, the first True Detective actor to do so. Despite this success, she confirmed earlier last year that she will not be returning for any future seasons of the show, explaining “it’s an anthology. It’s one and done”.
Vergara, who was also nominated for an Emmy for playing real life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, revealed that she drew upon her own brother’s murder at the hands of a cartel to connect with the role.
In a five-star review of True Detective: Night Country, NME wrote: “This iteration of True Detective is a female-driven return to form that weaves supernatural elements and a sensitive mental health narrative into a riveting and intricate detective story.”
Elsewhere at last night’s awards, Shōgun and The Bear were the big winners on the night with the former walking away with 18 wins – shattering the record for the most nominated and most awarded single-season drama series ever.
Baby Reindeer also took home several big awards, including Outstanding Writing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Show creator Richard Gadd also shared an inspiring and emotional speech. You can see the full list of award winners here.
