Neil Young has announced that he is set to release his “lost” album ‘Oceanside Countryside’ from the 1970s. Find all the details below.
The legendary singer-songwriter will share the record for the first time on Friday February 14 via Reprise, as part of his ongoing Analog Original Series (AOS). Pre-order/pre-save here.
Young shared the news on his official Archives website last Friday (January 3). The forthcoming project was recorded between May and December 1977, preceding the release of the musician’s ninth LP ‘Comes A Time’ (1978).
Per an official description, these two full-length efforts “share the same country/folk sound, and three songs (‘Goin’ Back’, ‘Human Highway’ and ‘Field of Opportunity’) appear on both albums”.
Additionally, the vinyl release of ‘Oceanside Countryside’ includes some cuts that are on the CD of the same name in ‘Neil Young’s Archives Vol. III’.
However, this tracklist is how ‘Oceanside Countryside’ was originally planned to be released, and will finally be available in analogue on vinyl for the first time ever. Recorded on tape, these are the original mixes done at the time of recording.
Young explained: “This analogue original album was recorded in 1977 and unreleased. These songs are the original mixes done at the time of the recordings in the order I planned for the album.
“I sang the vocals and played the instruments on ‘Oceanside’ in Florida at Triad studios and Malibu at Indigo studio. I sang the vocals and recorded with my great band of friends, Ben Keith, Joe Osborn, Karl T. Himmel, and Rufus Thibodeaux at Crazy Mama’s in Nashville on Countryside.”
He added: “I hope you enjoy this treasure of an Analog Original recording, recorded by Tim Mulligan, as much as I do. Listening to it now, I think I should have put it out back then.”
To preview the album, Young has shared ‘Field Of Opportunity’ on streaming platforms – you can listen to it above.
The tracklist for Neil Young’s ‘Oceanside Countryside’ is:
Side One: ‘Oceanside’

Last week, Young was confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2025 after he initially pulled out of this summer’s festival due to it being “a corporate turn-off”. The songwriting icon said: “We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in.”
But Young backtracked on these remarks shortly afterwards, admitting that there had been “an error in the information received”. “Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing! Hope to see you there!” he wrote.
Young headlined Glastonbury back in 2009 alongside Bruce Springsteen and Blur.
Speaking about his upcoming return to Worthy Farm recently, festival organiser Emily Eavis said: “What a start to the year! Neil Young is an artist who’s very close to our hearts at Glastonbury.
“He does things his own way and that’s why we love him. We can’t wait to welcome him back here to headline the Pyramid in June.”
Glasto ’25 ticketholders have since been sharing their thoughts on the booking – which followed the confirmation of Rod Stewart in the Legend Slot, and Nile Rodgers & Chic on the same stage.
