Ricky Gervais has offered up some of the jokes he would have made if he were hosting this weekend’s Golden Globe Awards.

The British comic presented the ceremony at total of five times – in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020 – earning a reputation as a fearless and controversial compere who made piercing quips against the A-lists in attendance.
This year’s show takes place on Sunday night (January 5), with comedian Nikki Glaser set to fill the presenting role, the first female host in the 82-year history of the Globes.
That hasn’t stopped Gervais from speculating about what he might have said from the stage given the opportunity, however. Writing on X, he said: “Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday. It’s been a pretty good year for material.”
Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world… https://t.co/lK3LuoxE90

Other victims of his jokes were Justin Timberlake, who pleaded guilty to impaired driving in September. “If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words “Sexy Back” a lot more often,” Gervais quipped.
Justin Timberlake was convicted of Drink Driving.

Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone.

The ongoing Diddy trial was another to come under Gervais’ fire. Referencing Kevin Hart’s height, he said that “being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout “Imma Midget, not a child.””
The Golden Globes traditionally marks the opening of the awards season, which will culminate with the Oscars on March 3.
The nominees were announced last month, with Jacques Audiard’s Spanish language musical crime film Emilia Pérez leading the way with 10 nominations. The Brutalist and Conclave picked up seven and six nods respectively, while on the TV side, The Bear is top of the heap with five nominations, followed by Shōgun and Only Murders In The Building on four each.
Among the presenters at this year’s ceremony will be Andrew Garfield, Anya Taylor-Joy, Colin Farrell, Demi Moore, Dwayne Johnson, Elton John, Gal Gadot, Glenn Close and Jeff Goldblum.
The ceremony will take place at 5pm PT/8pm ET in the US, airing live on CBS and Paramount+. There are currently no broadcast details confirmed for UK coverage.
Gervais, meanwhile, is currently on his Mortality tour around the UK, with dates on Tuesday and Wednesday this week (January 7 and 8) in Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, before heading to Ipswich, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge, Bournemouth and Glasgow and beyond.
