Season one of Squid Game remains Netflix’s most watched series ever, becoming a cultural phenomenon in 2021 telling the story of a secret contest where debt-ridden contestants play a series of children’s games with a deadly twist. Its star, Lee Jung-jae, found fame in Hollywood thanks to the show, being cast as the lead in Star Wars series The Acolyte.
Season two debuted on December 26, with Netflix reporting the biggest ever premiere for a show on its service. With 68million viewers in the first four days, it surpassed previous record holder Wednesday, which had an audience of 50.1million in 2022.
A third season has been previewed with a teaser trailer, launched on New Year’s Day, unveiling a new Red Light, Green Light doll named Chul-su, as well as three new players. The third season is expected to land this year and director David Fincher will be overseeing an English language spin-off series currently in development.
