Based on the Korean web novel by Chugong, the series takes place in a realm of gifted hunters and monsters. In this world, weak hunter Sung Jinwoo is given extraordinary strength through a mysterious programme, which kickstarts a journey across the various dungeons to discover the true source of his power.
The official synopsis for the second season reads: “Jinwoo has become a formidable necromancer with an army of loyal shadows at his command. But he must master these abilities while keeping them hidden from other hunters, all while racing against the clock to save his mother. As he faces humanity’s toughest foes, Jinwoo pushes his body and mind to the limit, and the full extent of his newfound power is revealed.”
What time will ‘Solo Leveling’ season 2 be released in the UK?
The second season, officially titled Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow, will be released around the world at the same time on Saturday, January 4. In the UK, it will be available to stream from 5:30pm GMT.
All 13 episodes of the second season are expected to be released at once, so you’l be able to binge them straight away.
Is there a trailer for ‘Solo Leveling’ season 2?
In anticipation of the release of the second season, a new Solo Leveling: ReAwakening film released in cinemas in early December. The feature-length movie, which was available with subtitles and dubbed in English, summarised the first season and offered a sneak peek at the first two episodes of the upcoming season. The original web novel series ran for 14 books, published between 2016 and 2021, while the webtoon ran for nine volumes from 2018 to 2021. You can watch the season two trailer below.
Earlier this year, NME gave the first season a four-star review, saying: “The only thing holding Solo Leveling from perfection is the lack of emotional depth from the series’ supporting characters, who largely function as plot devices for Jin-woo’s journey. Despite constant peril and several gruesome deaths, there’s a dearth of tension due to the audience’s lack of investment in the people around Jin-woo. And since Jin-woo himself is protected by plot armour, viewers almost never have to worry about the danger he puts himself in.
“Nevertheless, Solo Leveling’s narrative surprises, brisk pace and visual spectacle more than makes up for its flaws. Combine that with the joys of Jin-woo’s ascent and the intriguing mystery of his omniscient interface and you get an addictive anime that deserves all the hype it’s getting.”
