‘The Traitors’ fans are not impressed by third season’s “pointless plot twist”

The Traitors returned for its third season last night (January 1) and fans were left baffled by one particular plot twist.

The hit BBC One gameshow, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, once again oversees a group of faithful and traitorous strangers in the Scottish Highlands as they compete for a £120,000 cash prize.

But there are a number of new plot twists including one where Winkleman told contestants that the few who make it to the final this year will no longer reveal whether they are a ‘Faithful’ or ‘Traitor’ as they are banished.

Instead, the final players will have to rely purely on their instincts about whether or not any Traitors are left in the castle.

But one twist which left viewers baffled was a contestant putting on a fake Welsh accent, despite being from London and now living in Hampshire.

“Charlotte pretending to be welsh is a hilariously unnecessary lie,” one wrote while another added: “Obsessed with Charlotte faking being Welsh in the most pointless plot twist the show has ever seen.”

20 minutes into the new Traitors and already it’s pissing me off

“I’m a priest, but I’m going to lie about that”

“I’m a soldier, but I’m going to lie about that”

“I’m going to do a Welsh accent for no reason whatsoever”

Just shut up and play the game. Don’t need the gimmicks.

Another added: “20 minutes into the new Traitors and already it’s pissing me off ‘I’m a priest, but I’m going to lie about that’ ‘I’m a soldier, but I’m going to lie about that’ ‘I’m going to do a Welsh accent for no reason whatsoever’ Just shut up and play the game. Don’t need the gimmicks.”

Others though actually hailed Charlotte for putting on the fake accent.

“Are you rooting for the #Traitors or the #Faithful? I’m rooting for the girl who has pretended to be welsh for literally no solid reason whatsoever,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “3 female traitors, armani crying at breakfast, a fake welsh accent, we are SO back baby.”

One other fan also said: “Absolutely obsessed with her pretending to be welsh for literally no real reason… proper television is back.”

The new season, which is available to watch on iPlayer, will also be accompanied by a visual podcast, Traitors Uncloaked, hosted by comedian Ed Gamble, which will be available after every episode of the show on BBC Two, iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

All episodes will once again air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

Back in August, the BBC announced that a celebrity version of The Traitors will air before the third season but it has yet to go out.

Ricky Gervais recently denied reports that he will be making an appearance in the celebrity edition of The Traitors.
