South Korea Enters a Mourning Period for Jeju Air Plane Crash Victims + Cancels Events

At around 9:03 AM on the 29th, at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, Jeju Air Flight C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand crashed into the outer wall of the airport during an emergency landing, causing the aircraft to be destroyed and completely burned. The fire department rescued only two crew members from the plane, which had 175 passengers and 6 crew members on board, and transported them to the hospital.

Out of respect for the victims of the catastrophic event, South Korea has entered a period of mourning which will last until January 4, 2025. Thus several year-end festivals and events will be canceled. The  ‘MBC Entertainment Awards’ scheduled for December 30 was canceled and the MBC Gayo Daejeon which was scheduled to air on the 31st will also be canceled.  The show will be pre-recorded and aired at a different date. The schedule for the recorded broadcast has not been decided yet. Additionally, artists and entertainers will reframe from social media content including album and music video teasers until after January 4.
