Kpopalypse says thank you for 2024

This is just a little post to my readers to say thank you for 2024!

Hopefully all readers have had a good 2024! It was the twelfth year for kpopalypse.com and the site is still going strong! Thank you to all the new readers who have joined me over this past year in my k-pop adventures, as this site does almost no self-promotion and has zero paid advertising, so if you’re here reading this, that means it’s probably because you want to be! Thank you also to all the veteran readers who have stuck around and supported the site year after year… in many cases, long after their interest in actual k-pop music has gone! I appreciate your determination to continue to read my writings!

For those who haven’t been keeping tabs, there’s been plenty going on at kpopalypse.com. My lovely readers got to experience all the usual content, from the most popular stuff like the weekly roundups and critically important posts about visual presentation, to the far less popular stuff like Nugu Alert, which I’m fully aware almost no-one reads, but don’t think that’ll ever stop me from continuing to feature lesser-known artists. The “fictional” Shin Hana book series of four novel-length books was completed and published (along with a post about how you can do the same thing yourself that’s so large it’s practically a fifth free book all of its own), the ChuuVes computer games realised their destiny in 2024 Pride Month with the sixth episode “Return Of The Chuu“, and I even got to review a live k-pop show again!

For Kpopalypse, 2024 was a year of changes. I’ve had to host my own computer games myself, as grasping their satirical intent seems to be too hard for third-party sites who do not understand the true meaning of ChuuVes (thank you to veteran supporter az5he6ch for providing this hosting!) Retrospring closing down means I’ve had to move the short-form Q&A over to Neospring (although QRIMOLE still exists for the big questions that demand detailed answers). The Terms Of Service for Twitter changing to make blocking less meaningful and allowing AI to train on Kpopalypse postings (plus Elon Musk still refusing to give his goddaughter Go Won any of that SpaceX money tsk tsk) means that my main social networking has also moved to BlueSky. This isn’t even a complete list of changes! We’re all naturally resistant to change, so thank you to readers for sticking through these changes, hopefully 2025 will be more consistent!

The written site content itself however, hasn’t changed at all this year! Of course there’s always mounting pressure from all corners of k-pop media for me to change how I do things here. K-pop fandom members and media insiders alike have come to me with suggestions this year, offerring various oppar-tunities or collaborations of various types with the caveat that I “fix my image” in order to participate – but changing how I write for someone else defeats the entire purpose of having this site in the first place! Obviously there have been some gradual changes through the years as I can’t help but change as I’ve become a more experienced writer, but these are self-directed and come organically from within, not from outside influence! Kpopalypse will always remain true to its caonima spirit!

Who knows what 2025 will bring? Kpopalypse does, thanks to Super Boram ESP powers! You can expect the usual roundups all through 2025, more series posts like music theory, fashion, science and other observational trufax posts as they become relevant, a new different RPG game, a new different novel, and lots of other random stuff throughout the year! Thank you so much to all the readers! A special shout out to all those who have either purchased books or donated to the site through the Kpopalypse Ko-fi, I appreciate your support immensely this year as I’ve had many financial challenges, your patronage means a lot, thank you so much! However the purpose of this post isn’t a Wikipedia-style begathon – under no circumstances should any readers ever feel pressure to donate, I understand all too well that many readers are also poor! I’m still grateful to each and every one of you who visits and reads the content here, whether it be daily, weekly, yearly, or just whenever someone else annoys you by talking about me online! Thank you to all readers and here’s to an even more caonimaish 2025!
