When I get gloomy over the state of the world, I think about Love, Actually. Not because it’s a feel-good holiday classic—though it is—but because of how it is that.

Love, Actually captures the messy, real parts of love: sometimes it’s unrequited, or isn’t enough, or things end, or it’s misunderstood. But is also drives home that love actually is all around us. Maybe not in the form we’re expecting, but it’s there. Similarly, these songs might not be the flashiest love songs on the block, but they’re warm and dependable and can always be counted on to pick you up. Just like a ride from the airport.
